3–5 minutes

We tell ourselves everyday that we are the ones in control. The technology we have built over the period of time in different spaces like Automobile, Electronics, Biotechnology etc. We tend to live with them ,sleep with them wake up with them, run with them, interact with them and all the other activities done with their assistance. What if we one day we stopped using Cars, Phones , Airplanes ,electronic gadgets etc. 10 years ago computers were expensive tools. What if we stopped using computers one day? Today Civilizations as we know them will fall apart without them!! People get anxiety attacks if an important phone call doesn’t ring, Computer crashes , or simply if a car wont start .Due to this we get stuck in our lives and our society doesn’t function properly. They buzz we jump, they ring we answer so we need to ask ourselves who is really in control? WE OR THEM ?

They want you to give up your humanity, your autonomy for a paycheck, gold star, bigger TV. The only way to be human, the only way to be free is by celebrating days like Car Free Days and engage in activities which makes us to rebel against the detention that we have locked ourselves in, guarded by machines.

As Ted Kaczyinski said “ You have to be your own master, whatever that takes. Better to die a human being than to live as a purposeless cog in their machine.”

Car-free days provide cities with a huge opportunity to learn how much pollution impacts our lives. Vehicle emissions are a major cause of outdoor air pollution, especially in cities. According to the World Health Organization, ambient air pollution alone was responsible for 4.2 million deaths in 2016. Transport is also the fastest rising source of CO2 emissions from fossil fuels, making it the most significant contributor to climate change.

With over one billion motor cars on the road today, it sometimes appears that we cannot escape the pollution, noise, and danger that they cause. One day each year is set aside to attempt to avoid driving by cycling, walking, or taking public transportation instead. Car Free Day attempts to take the heat off the globe for one day by encouraging people to be less reliant on their automobiles and try alternatives. It aims to make cities pollution free and urges people to give up their automobiles for one day to achieve other objectives like getting used to our locality, make use of public transport and last but not the least going green. While cars are convenient and provide many benefits, they also contribute a frightening quantity of pollution, thus taking a day off is strongly advised. World Car Free Day is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about these issues while also assisting in the reduction of emissions. This Day is also helpful in promoting alternative ways of transportation, such as cycling.

Cities should utilise car-free days to demonstrate how crowded roadways can be used in new ways. On this crucial day, cities and the people who live in them are emphasising the alternatives to polluting automobiles, from racing for alternative-energy driven vehicles in Budapest to horseback riding in So Paulo, street picnics in Vienna, and running in Jakarta.

A recent report commissioned by Audi Abu Dhabi and produce by YouGov, found that 52 percent of people in UAE are planning to shift from Diesel /Petrol automobiles to Hybrid/Electric Vehicles. Recently Dubai’s Road and transport authority proposed a plan to make public transport emission free by 2050. Government initiatives to reduce Carbon footprint by making at least 25% of government vehicles use Natural Gas as Fuel. Days like these along with governments commitments towards its sustainable goals helps create more awareness in people of UAE and inspiration for others.

People of UAE are getting aware and there is acceptance seen in Emirati people about climate change. We can see the shift in automobile preference be it car, bike or any other transport commodity. The justification for this change isn’t a direct result of climb in gas costs, it’s the development and understanding which individuals of UAE have which makes UAE special. Days like these drives me personally to make choices in my day to day life oriented more towards biodegradable products and Sustainable Green Future.
